Where I used to visit England every summer for 3 months visiting family…
I was in Manchester half the time running around the same streets Morrissey & Johnny Marr did completely unaware of that fact… SIGH
darnit lol I could have been taking all the pictures next to & visiting Salford Lads Club, iron bridge and all those smiths sites.
why did it take me 21 years to appreciate & discover The Smiths
maybe next time lol. #sob
But maybe I got a more realistic view of the city without that bias though, in a weird way I also grew up on those streets even if it was for a few weeks every summer of my life.
Which is another just reason why The Smiths are so dear and close to home for me. I relate so much on so many levels. Its one thing to be a fan of their music but its another to also come from a similar background as well. I totally get the northern ‘working class’ England experience, I was practically raised in it. My dad’s side is from Ireland/manchester emmigrants as well, my mom’s side is from Nottingham. Irish blood, English heart. I was born in Florida though so I guess it doesn’t count as much haha. A few generations & ocean away. But yes I still get it. It just adds another layer of intimacy and relatability for me.
